CHANGE IN PRODUCTION

Due to the deadline and timing issues, the animation style has changed to digital Rotoscoping. I felt this was an excellent decision as I wanted to stick to my production schedule. I want this to be a successful short film so that I can send it off to Film Festivals and Vimeo Staff Picks.

The film is experimental with the organic art style. I looked up some artistic references to help me get inspired.

I have filmed my friend cats with a canon camera and recorded some sounds with a recorder that I hired from the M-block. It took a lot of time and patience to film theses animals as they don’t receive instructions and want to act on their terms. Never work with Animals or Children.

The animation is on 12frames per second, and are hand-drawn and coloured on TVpaint and Adobe Photoshop CC.

Soundtrack

I need to find a Collaborator, so I research some of the recent graduates from the university, who can provide a soundtrack for my 60sec film.
I contacted Erik Bria, a composer and session musician who has recently graduated and has worked on my previous projects.
I sent an email and discuss the brief to Erik, but he feels this piece of work is way out of his expertise, so he sends off my brief to other Musician that may fit the bill.
I send a folder full of cat noises recorded on a Zoom pro 8 recorder to help the collaborator get started. (Wetransfer) the collaborator is welcome to research and find other better materials.
This is an experimental animation so there are boils in the animation and the drawings will be coloured in pro-marker pens, to show movement in the colour texture.

I would like the soundtrack to be quirky and unusual but also get the audience to feel “something”. This could be a very therapeutic piece of work that could make the audience feel relaxed and happy.
Here is an example of a soundtrack that I like: https://vimeo.com/362396867
This is the Kino-Eye video I created over the summer, the soundtrack is called Biosphere – Ballerina, Biosphere is a musician who uses an Electronic Keyboard and synthesiser.
This is the type of style im looking for, but that relates to the topic of the film.

Geir Jenssen is a Norwegian electronic musician who records as Biosphere. A resident of Tromsø within the Arctic Circle, Jenssen is well known for ambient and ambient house pieces, often inspired by Arctic or mountain settings, and his use of loops and peculiar samples from science fiction and natural sources. His 1997 album Substrata was voted by the users of the Hyperreal website in 2001 as the best all-time classic ambient album. He has also composed several film scores.
